Transcription of the show
Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Property Voice podcast. My name is Richard Brown and as always, it’s a pleasure to have you join me on the show again today.
Today really is the end of the end of our Women in Property series…with the second part of our concluding recap and review. Let’s hear more of our insights and observations after interviewing no less than 12 wonderful women in property right now.

Discussion summary between Richard & Helen.
Key summary points and learnings
- Getting organised & operational excellence – most of our guests were committed to doing a genuinely great job; often using tools and apps in the process. Equally, taking a long-term approach, seeking win-win outcomes and serving others was a recurrent theme. Many of our guests have flexible working and virtual teams. Work on your business not always in your business….set aside some time and get into a different space to interrupt the daily pattern in order to achieve this.
- The importance of honesty & being authentic – be frank and honest with staff, business partners and also the full supply chain. Honesty is both a personal value and also a business principle that many of our guests shared. Say what you mean and mean what you say.
- A purpose or higher calling beyond ourselves – it’s more than the money… Doing good and the right thing was a differentiator, provided it was a genuine one. Does success come with a greater sense of purpose…we think it might. Getting the customer service ethos into our property business; including at times supporting our tenants during more challenging times. Smaller landlords are more able to respond personally, which should be a differentiator.
- Making it in property…not always through property investment – there are many paths open to us to achieve success. There was also a crossover between a successful businesswoman and being a successful property investor or developer. Our own home can be one way to make progress. Many of our guests have transferable skills, such as finance and marketing, which can be applied both ways between business and property. Property is not a get rich quick strategy…we tend to overestimate what we can achieve in the short-term yet underestimate what we can achieve in the long-term.
- Reinforcing stereotypes or busting some myths – did we…well, not really…what we uncovered was that all our guests are different and so ‘anything goes’ really. Many of our guests would use their strengths as a woman where relevant. You can’t generalise by gender…you can achieve success as a woman in property.
Showcase role model examples, inspiration and aspiration for others to hear and follow.

OK, so that’s all for this week and indeed for this series. I have a mini-series coming right up, called: Property Heavyweights, where I will be interviewing an eclectic handful of people from our industry that have made great strides in terms of scale, longevity and/or wealth. I will also share the odd update from our Apprentices as bonus episodes in between so as to not interrupt the flow of the Wednesday episode as this next series rolls out.
Remember, if you want to talk about anything from today’s show, or just talk property investing more generally, email me or Helen ‘The Content Doc’ Pollock at podcast@thepropertyvoice.net, we would be happy to hear from you! The show notes can be found at our website www.thepropertyvoice.net
All that is left to say, is thank you very much for listening once again this week and until next time on The Property Voice Podcast…it’s ciao-ciao.
