Transcription of the show
Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Property Voice podcast. My name is Richard Brown and as always, it’s a pleasure to have you join me on the show again today.
Today is the beginning of the end of our Women in Property series…ahhh. So, what have we learned, what are the key learnings and takeaways from the great guests we have had join us over the past three months or so? That’s what Helen and I are trying to uncover on this first part of our series recap.

Discussion summary between Richard & Helen.
Key summary points and learnings
- Understanding finance was a recurring theme – don’t be too emotional about property as if it were our home and do thoroughly understand the numbers as its an asset class and a business/
- The importance of due diligence – be professional and business-like, so do your thorough research…due diligence, due diligence and DUE DILIGENCE.
- Don’t be afraid to sell property, it can boost your cash pot for more deposits
- Education – E or e education, whether it is formal training or self-learning; most of our women mentioned this in some shape or form
- Support: networking, mentors & at home – get people around you at home (including childcare) and in the business who can support you. You can have it all with home life and business life…but necessarily in a perfect way…good is good enough. A women in property support network might be something to consider?
- We are all different…and that’s OK…we can find our own path as it suits us. We don’t necessarily have to invest in property directly…many of our guests have different business interest, which might be property-related if not as a traditional property investor or developer.
- Balance and wellness – knowing where to set boundaries, limits and looking after ourselves/self-care was also something mentioned quite a lot. Boundaries between home and work can become so blurred. Being in control of your own destiny was important, however, we need to learn to ask for what we want and also to say no as well. Women are often brought up to be people-pleasers (nature vs. nurture), so this can be quite hard to do.
- Role modelling to others – willingly or otherwise, showing their children, through their business or by their values and behaviour in the industry among their peers, the way forward.
- Different necessary or beneficial other character traits – resilience, persistent, picking yourself up and dusting yourself off, getting a pep-talk from someone you trust, always tweaking things (pause, pivot or persevere?), ‘bouncebackability’.
- Marketing & social media – you do need the courage to put yourself out there, keep yourself level (ignore the highs and lows), take the learning and leave the hate behind. Is social media actually marketing? Lots of our guests were leveraging social capital to help people move along the ‘know-like-trust journey’. Pause 41 mins
OK, so that’s all for this week. If you want to talk about anything from today’s show, or just talk property investing more generally, email me or Helen at podcast@thepropertyvoice.net, I would be happy to hear from you! The show notes can be found at our website www.thepropertyvoice.net
All that is left to say, is thank you very much for listening once again this week and until next time on The Property Voice Podcast…it’s ciao-ciao.
