I am joined on the show this week by Dominic Wilson, Co-Founder of Pi Labs, which is a dedicated PropTech venture capital fund. We take a look at PropTech and PropTech companies through the lens of a highly specialised and sharply focused sophisticated investor, which was a real treat to me I have to say. I hope you also find it a treat, as we dive into some of the thought process and insights of someone who is directly rewarded from calling the successful bets of future sectors, technologies and especially companies that will shape property investment futures. Who will Dominic name-check, which sectors will he give us a nod towards and is he a dragon sat with a pile of cash; these are just some of the questions that will be answered today. Spoiler alert: Dominic is not anything like a dragon, but a bloody nice bloke as far as I can tell at least!

Transcription of the show
Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Property Voice podcast. My name is Richard Brown and as always, it’s a pleasure to have you join me on the show again today.
Some headlines...
Pi Labs is the first European VC PropTech firm. They currently have a portfolio of 34 startups, the founders of which span 18 different nationalities. They provide capital, have an accelerator programme and also provide the means for angel investors to sit alongside them.
Some names mentioned as we went: Land Insight, Realyse, Appraised, Office App, PropCoin, AskPorter, Trussle, Keepsite and Brolly.
PropTech is a growth sector: viz Softbank's massive interest in real estate in their $100Bn fund.
PropTech can help to make one of the more traditional and slower changing industries improve productivity and efficiency.
Evolution, not revolution...a recurring theme!
Sectors to watch over the coming years: ConTech (construction technology), InsureTech (insurance technology), care homes.
Tech to watch over the coming years: Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Blockchain.
Longer-term thoughts: rise of sharing economy / fractional ownership of property assets & rising trend of consumers as customers
Pi Labs are interested in:
- Finding great PropTech start-ups & founders to back
- High net worth / sophisticated Investors to co-invest with
- Support networks for their existing portfolio
Contact Pi Labs or Dominic if this is you (see resources section for details)
OK, so next time out we shall be taking a look at Blockchain technology, so make sure you tune in for that potentially game-changing technological advance for the property industry won’t you?
