I am joined on the show today by Ray Rafiq-Omar from UnMortgage, who also writes and comments on the PropTech Sector for Property Industry Eye. As you will hear, Ray does not hold back in expressing his views about the sector, sharing some disappointment for his perception of a lack of innovation at times. However, he also describes some of the initial steps that are being taken to pave the way towards progress, if not quantum leaps just yet, he looks forward to a game-changing start-up coming along to shake the place up! We discuss finance and lending, payments and blockchain technology among other topics in a wide-ranging conversation.

Transcription of the show
Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Property Voice podcast. My name is Richard Brown and it’s a pleasure to have you join me on the show again today.
Have a listen, as we discuss finance and lending, payments and blockchain technology among other topics in a wide-ranging conversation.

Interview with Ray Rafiq-Omar from UnMortgage
I was really looking forward to speaking with Ray, who as you could probably tell, holds back no punches when it comes to the subject of innovation in our sector. Ray is a serial entrepreneur and has freely admitted to sometimes having an idea before its time, with WigWam for example. I do admire his humility and vision though and so, I genuinely do hope that UnMortgage takes off. That could be a real game-changer for the large number of Generation Rent that want to get on the housing ladder but find gaining a mortgage a challenge.
Ray namechecked quite a few companies doing some great things in PropTech generally and FinTech in particular including; like GetHomie, MoveBubble & Viewber helping to shake up property search and viewings, Lemonade, from the USA, co-founded by a Brit, helping to introduce for behavioural economics in insurance, GoCardLess, Revolut, Stripe bringing payments technology to ordinary people and small businesses, and finally, LendInvest, Trussle and of course UnMortgage making strides in lending and finance. You can still register your interest with UnMortgage at www.unmortgage.com but it doesn’t sound for like for long, so get there fast!
Perhaps in conclusion, its possibly a case of an emphasis on process improvement for some quick wins right now, with more yet to come, in terms of quantum leap innovation, as Ray described it. It is therefore fitting to recall his parting words that…'we might all be shaken up a small start-up that nobody sees coming'. So, if you are the last generation of property professionals that Ray referred to…you had better watch out!
That’s all for this week, but do join me next time for more FinTech discussion with another thought-leader and rainmaker from the FinTech sector, but in the meantime, the show notes can be found over at www.thepropertyvoice.net or if you want to talk about anything from today’s show, receive an intro into one of my guests or just talk property investing, email me at podcast@thepropertyvoice.net, I would be happy to hear from you!
Once again, all I want to say is thank you very much for listening once again this week and until next time on The Property Voice Podcast…it’s ciao-ciao.
