"Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for you to reach the heights of your capabilities or make the money that you want without becoming very good at it."
Brian Tracy
Motivation Monday - Richard's Insight
I have been watching quite a lot of sport lately...tennis, football, volleyball, F1, cricket...ok best stop now as you may think that's all I do! However, in every single one of these sports, the idea of having a great team seems to be becoming of even greater importance than it ever was before.
Even in the so-called more individual sports like tennis and F1, the top players / drivers have a heavyweight team around them, with each member undertaking a specific role for the entire team. It seems that having a great and talented individual is no guarantee of success either, for example, Messi has won nothing of note with Argentina and it's a similar story (so far) with Portugal's Ronaldo.
The idea is, of course, not a new one is it? Not at all, however, honestly speaking, as property investors, how many of us REALLY make sure that we have a great team around us?
There are some obvious team members that we need, such as agents (sales & lettings), finance brokers, insurance providers, accountants, lenders and such like. Then, there are trade specialists, such as builders and other professional trades providers for maintenance, refurbishment or development purposes.
In addition, how about other investment or JV partners, networking groups, coaches & mentors and so on. I guess now the numbers are starting to drop off.
As I have progressed myself in my own property investment journey, I have found that some of these team members are fundamental to even survive, whilst others have become a key to diversification, leverage and growh. It is this latter realisation that has been the biggest game-changer as far as I am concerned...it has helped me and many others to move on to the next level.
How about you, how seriously do you take the idea of having a great team around you? Brian Tracy certainly believes it is impossible to reach your full potential without it...and I am inclined to agree with him!
