“ It's easy to think that people will like you more if you do whatever they tell you to do, but it's quite the opposite. People don't appreciate pushovers - they use them. ”

Motivation Monday - Richard's Insight
Sounds harsh, but it's true!
Unless we respect ourselves, how can we expect anyone else to respect us?
Give an inch and people will take a mile as the saying goes...it's basically human nature. OK, so not literally everyone is like that, but often it is the case and especially in business...and equally property investing too.
We need boundaries and limits to avoid being a pushover or being pushed into doing something we don;t want to do. We also need to say 'no' when we sense that saying yes benefits the other person but at our cost.
Are you a pushover, even on occasions...how do you feel when that happens to you?
Not great is it?
So, knowing when and how to draw the line is something that will help.
Use phrases like these to give you some time before you answer:
- Let me think about it.
- I'm not sure about that, I will give it some thought.
- It's a maybe at the moment, I will get back to you.
Then, you can give yourself a little distance and decide if you want to do what is asked or not. If not just say 'no thanks' or 'not at the moment, thanks'. You don't have to give an reason or explanation beyond, 'it doesn't work for me at the moment that's all'.
Don't be a pushover - you will thank yourself, and more importantly respect yourself, for that one day for sure!
