"You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you."
- John Wooden
Motivation Monday - Richard's Insight
This is such a powerful quotation for several reasons. First, it helps us to think beyond ourselves. Second, it hints at principles such as sufficiency & abundance. Third, it puts us in a position of giving not to receive but merely to bless others without expectation in return.
Then, of course the challenge becomes: how to live a perfect day and how many can we live?
I recently saw a list of the top 25 giving athletes and two iconic footballers made the top 4 - Cristiano Ronaldo & Neymar Jr. The temptation here is to say, it's ok for them, they can afford it. But how many other footballers made the top 25? Not that many I can tell you, which suggests that there is more to giving than money alone.
It is also about attitude - probably of gratefulness and heart or compassion. These are some of the keys to develop if we want to have a foundation of giving and help to make a difference in the lives of others.
Once we start dwelling on John Wooden's quote, thoughts of gratefulness and compassion are inevitable and when that happens, people start to get things they need and we get to lead more perfect days too..
