"Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned."
Peter Marshall
Motivation Monday - Richard's Insight
The idea of the undertaking small, individual or regular tasks that move us forward towards our goals has been very much top of mind this week. Books such as The Compound Effect and The Slight Edge explain this idea particularly well if you want to read up on the idea a little further.
However, what struck me about this particular quote is that the emphasis is on taking a clear and deliberate action. Fear, doubt, and procrastination are some of the biggest internal limitations that prevent us from achieving our full potential. It could be argued that it is better to do the wrong thing than nothing at all. Whilst, I do not fully subscribe to that way of thinking, I do subscribe to the idea of making a clear plan, doing enough (although not too much that it stifles us) research and then getting stuck in.
In property, a number of less than perfect investments can be improved just by the passing of time. So, often the worst that can happen is that we have to wait for longer than we had hoped. Agreed, that if we have a very short-term need for income, for example, then that delay may be quite costly. But, so too would be the delay to do anything at all.
As I mentioned before, good is sometimes good enough and when we consider the opportunity cost of doing nothing, an unnecessary delay is equally bad as a slightly poor decision.
Becoming an action taker is one of the most important things we can adopt if we want to separate ourselves from the mediocre...and it really isn't that difficult to do! Just think it over, decide and act...without too much messing about. That's it in a nutshell.
So, to bring this into a call to action, just as I suggested to my mastermind group last week, set yourself a daily alarm for the next seven days that poses this question: 'what WILL I do today that will take me forward towards my goals?'. Ideally, leave it as a recurring daily reminder to give 365 potential opportunities to move forward over the next twelve months. Imagine the compound effect of all those small actions on to your property business 🙂
