Motivation Monday - Richard's Insight
Inch by inch, step by step, little by little...we have all heard these and other similar phrases on how to get things done. In fact, we hear them so often that they have probably lost much of their meaning and certainly the practical application.
Recently, I have found that I can only effectively get between 3-5 productive actions completed per day, not including brushing my teeth, catching up with the news and feeding the cat, which don't count as productive actions!
Imagine completing just 3 genuinely productive tasks every working day. Over a typical year and even allowing for holidays that's almost 700 productive actions completed. At 5 per day, it's more like 1,000 productive actions completed. These will all add up and gradually compound to take me closer to my goals.
So, these days, I set myself a target of completing at least 3 and realistically no more than 5 prioritised actions to get done each and every day. Anything else is either a bonus or more likely delegated, outsourced, deferred or just deleted now.
This allows me to convert my big dreams, wishes, plans and great talk into a more laser-focused action plan that is aligned to my most meaningful goals and objectives. It's been tough at times, as I often find that other people want me to do other things not on my list resulting in me drifting, so I have to have a more disciplined approach.
My solution is to section off two dedicated chunks of time each day to complete these 3-5 personal, productive actions. This then allows me to worry about other things in the remaining time available without risking me being blown off course.
What do you do to ensure you get stuff done?
