“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
~ Steve Jobs
Motivation Monday - Richard's Insight
Wise words indeed from Steve Jobs here, but how many of them do we actually practice within our own lives? We don't have to be corporate visionaries, aspiring prime ministers or social media savvy astronauts for this advice to be true. We just need to live our own lives, pursue our own dreams and follow what we deep inside know to be right for us.
It's not about being selfish, it is about being true to ourselves. Sure, we can compromise, particularly with the people we love. When it comes to our work, career and business, we spend such a large part of our lives doing it, so why not do what we believe in, feel most passionate about and essentially just enjoy really?
I think this advice can sometimes be difficult to accept or carry out particularly when we are in the middle stage of life. When we are young, we probably have little need for material possessions and no clear ties either. When we are older, we have already lived a life and know more intrinsically that we can and we should be ourselves more and more (check out just how older people tend to adopt a 'that's just the way I am approach'). Somewhere in the middle, we start to take on responsibilities and other's people's needs and agendas, which is natural of course. However, it need not mean that the middle years of our lives have to become a void that bridges the gap between the innocent and carefree zest of youth or the couldn't really care what people think in our 'golden years'.
Any time is the right time...young, older or somewhere in the middle...make your big move toward pursuing YOUR dreams this year!
