Merriam Webster defines "podcast" as:
A program (as of music or talk) made available in digital format for automatic download over the Internet.
The growth of smartphones over recent years has meant that more and more Internet-based content is now available via a portable device (e.g. phone) than ever before. Much of this content comes through direct Internet access through a web browser, such as Safari on the iPhone. However, another growth area is in apps (applications) that collect together useful content or applications under a specific aspect of the phone - or a user interface if you prefer! A podcast is usually delivered via an app, with the most common one being iTunes of course, even if at times it can be a bit clunky to use (try leaving a review for example...).
Podcasting is a fairly new way of reaching a new audience via a different medium - audio primarily but it could also be video. I became aware of podcasting as a knowledge resource around 18 months ago and now I regularly subscribe to various property podcasts bit also in business, finance, personal development and a range of other interests too. They are great to listen to when doing something else such as travelling or working out at the gym and that makes them a great productivity tool and multi-task learning aid.
Enough about what they are...how about a few tips of which ones to listen to? I can do a little better than that by directing you to some property podcast episodes that feature yours truly 🙂 This means you can get to check out a podcast resource and at the same time hear a little bit more about me and my property journey in the process...if you want to that is...
Here are 3 podcasts with links to the episodes that happen to feature an interview with me to get you going:
Inside Property Investing - Episode 019
The Property Investor Podcast - Episode 2
Property Geek Podcast - Episode 20
Now that you are either hungry for me or just need to change the record, here are some of the other property podcasts that I like:
The Property Voice Podcast (of course!)
The Property Podcast
The Bigger Pockets Podcast (US)
The Rich Dad Radio Show (US)
Had enough of property podcasts yet? OK, no problem there are loads to explore in other genres but here are a couple just to get you started (some UK, some US / Aus):
Art of Charm - it's all about being social
Achieve Your Goals - it's about err...goals but the presenter wrote a book that ranks among Rich Dad, Poor Dad & The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People that really impacted me positively...The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod
Smart Passive Income - Pat Flynn is an absolute legend and what's even better is that he seems to be such a nice guy as well! Check this podcast out as a 'must listen' in the world of alternative income streams
Superfast Business Podcast - James Schramko is a prolific podcaster on all things business in the digital age...and he takes Mondays off to go surfing too!
TED Talks & TED Talks Business - Brain food in bite-sized chunks from the excellent TED stable
Freakonomics - The hidden side of everything looks at everyday matters with an economics twist...the crack cocaine episode one is another 'must listen' too!
That should be enough to ensure even the longest of commutes goes without losing a second of learning resources. I do have more that I dip into now and again but as I now listen to a lot more audio books, I have found the podcast diet a little more restricted these days than before. Still, I would recommend listening to podcasts to broaden your knowledge and increase the amount of productive time you have when doing other things.
I would be interested to hear of your podcast recommendations...and do you enjoy our new Podcast?
