The Property Voice Podcast - Series 2: Property Cycles - The Investment Property Lifecycle - Undertaking Works
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
I am joined on the show today by my good friend Damien Fogg from buytoletstrategy.com. Damien is an experienced investor himself, as well as being a chartered building surveyor and so knows a thing or two about undertaking works in investment property. Join us as we discuss the do's and don't of undertaking works for refurbishment, conversion and development projects. How to specify and scope out works costs, how to engage and contract builders and other trades, how to manage a project on time and budget are just some of the items we cover. Also, find out why Damien is such a fan of big kitchens and tidy skirting boards!

Transcription of the show
Hello and welcome to another edition of The Property Voice Podcast, my name is Richard Brown and as always it is a pleasure to have you join me again on the show today.
We continue our journey through the Investment Property Lifecycle…this time taking a look at undertaking works on a property. Whilst we can buy property without undertaking any works, such as a new build property, at some stage we will need to perform some work on any property that’s for sure. Equally, if we are looking to create value, or ‘force the appreciation’ on a property to create profit or equity, then this will more than likely mean undertaking some kind of programme of works.
I am joined on the show today by my good friend Damien Fogg. You probably know already that Damien is a chartered building surveyor and so I tend to look in his direction as the go to person when it comes to undertaking works.
Let’s start with my interview with Damien and we can pick up the thread again shortly.
Property Chatter
Interview with Damien Fogg
There is one think that tends to happen when Damien and I get together…we usually end up talking about property…A LOT! Given the time taken on the interview, we shall truncate the rest of the show today and pick up the theme a little more next time around.
If you want to be one of the first to see Damien’s upcoming blog post on undertaking works in property development - the do’s and don’ts; then either contact him direct, our website to with the show notes for today’s episode has his contacts, or just drop me an email podcast@thepropertyvoice.net and I will make sure you get them instead.
We shall leave it there for now, however, I will pick up the theme of undertaking works again next time out. I will also try to give a perspective of undertaking works on a remote or hands off basis, as is my usual way of doing things, so that you can get a different perspective on the subject if you are anything like me…with an aversion to paintbrushes!
Keep your suggestions for the show coming through: podcast@thepropertyvoice.net and all the show notes will be over at the website www.thepropertyvoice.net
Thank you very much for listening again this week and until next time on The Property Voice Podcast…it’s ciao-ciao
