"Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm."
- Winston Churchill
Motivation Monday - Richard's Insight
There are two key elements to this quote that really resonate with me. First, the idea that success comes from failure and second the right attitude throughout. In terms of failure, I have seen lots of quotes similar to this of late and it may seem odd as a Brit with Anglo-Saxon roots to think that failure is entertained in any way. However, this misses the point and we really do need to get over ourselves and our ego here. One way in which we grow, is by trying things, making mistakes (failing) and developing through experience.
As far as attitude is concerned, or as Churchill puts it...enthusiasm...this is all about having the right sort of mental attitude, and indeed mental strength at all times, or at least nearly all the time anyway! This might mean rethinking what the conventional idea of success is in the first place as I explained above...failing is a method of growth and personal development and so it should be sought out and embraced. With that mindset shift in place, we will find it easier to try new things, or make a start and see how things go. I am not suggesting taking stupid risks, but I am saying start growing and to start growing we should make a few mistakes.
It's a case of 'if at first your don't succeed' meets 'whistle while you work' but I think Churchill puts it a little better than that!
